How would a REAL patriot act?

This question has been on the forefront of the American consiousness even before terrorists struck the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The Congressional response to pass  the Patriot Act on October 24 of that year possibly did more damage to the fabric of this country than the terrorists could have hoped for. Sadly, it wasn't even read by those voting on it.

The act raises real questions on liberty and security that are discussed to this day, and throughout this web site. Indeed, this web site originated as a protest of the Patriot Act during the 2004 election cycle.

It is my hope to generate awareness, outrage and, ultimately, to create a "distributed protest" for those that don't always have the time or inclination to physically attend large scale demonstrations. This goal is ongoing—the next protest is scheduled for October 24, 2006. I encourage you to participate

Brother Sam

This law, and many others, stand in oppossition to the principles on which this country was founded: freedom and the responsibility it entails. The American Revolution was rebellion against a government that ran roughshod over colonists and their liberties. While the spirit of America is undoubtedly one of Independence, those that fought for it knew the price was a lifelong responsibility protect  liberty, without which there could be no 'pursuit of happiness.'

These pages aren't for those steeped in political discourse. While I do provide long legal documents, my goal is to reach those who would otherwise ignore the topics covered here. It is meant as a springboard to further investigation of  events glossed over during the evening news or buried in the local paper.

What you will find here (besides cool merchandise) is discussion of voting machines, political machines, corporate machines and social networks written for people like my sister who don't have the time to learn the hidden facts that are driving the information age.

Within this site are the documents everyone mentions but rarely print: the Constitution, The Patriot act, and others. I present them  as I present these pages—As an Independant voice without allegience to Red or Blue State. Think of this as a voice from the Purple state.

What you'll find:

I've chosen my navigation scheme to reflect all that information you won't get from your local newspaper:

"Who" is where you'll find out about the editor; how to locate your Senator and house representatives; who is behind the Free Software Movement, and who benefits from outrageous patent and Digital Restriction Management.

"What" is the news section. My blog, and in depth news items.

"When" will be a calendar of events, and, even more importantly, histories and documents that encapsulate the ideals on which America was founded. You can easily find an HTML version of the Constitution here.

"Where" is where you'll find links to other web-sites of interest. Many of these I frequent myself as sources--or just for fun. Also find here places I've visited and, in some cases, reviewed. Expect to see Philadelphia reviewed extensively, since it is the birthplace of the United States.

"Why" is mostly essays on why things are the way they are. Why is "Free" (as in freedom) software is important, and why politicians and news agencies so alike? These forthcoming essays will detail that connection, and more.

"How:" How can one person, or a group, effect change? Simply put, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Bearing that in mind, you'll find ways to make your voice heard, and stories telling of how others have changed the course of their government. Also here you'll find tutorials on a wide range of topic from using Linux to making better photographs.

Clicking "know" on the banner will take you back to this page

You'll notice "Merch" in the upper right hand corner. I currently take no advertisements, so to finance this I'm selling t-shirts, and other products, of my own design. If you like what I'm doing, please help support it. If not, drop me a line to let me know what I can do better.

One final word: I am passionate about the ideas here. I can't emphasize the point more—I am not left or right, but reasonable and inquisitive, as I hope you are. Please take the time to read some of what's here, and feel free to offer your input.

Thanks for stopping by,

--Peter Tisserand
